Economic markets, financial institutions and the global economy are unpredictable and in constant flux. Just as market systems boom, they must eventually bust and continue the ebb and flow of cyclical division and relationship. Upside Down Fire, featuring recent work by multi-disciplinary artists Ya-chu Kang and Christian Nicolay, examines the fragility of interconnected global market systems and their relationship to the balance of opposing forces. Kang and Nicolay depict a world in which rational and irrational co-exist. Incorporating found or salvaged materials, paint, video and sculpture, both artists develop a sense of play, embracing the collaborative component, searching for ways to open up discourse on timely global issues.
