The motif comes from experiences of custom checking and identity examined while travelling across various countries. It involves issues of national borders and immigrants. The red lines on this piece of cloth define the borders between land and ocean. All the lands are marked and extended to the edges of cloth. The large cloth is then suspended from the ceiling and deprived of the national borders to interpret what ideal borders should be like in my mind. The red lines eventually resemble a pair of shoes and stockings, trying to tell stories and problems of national and social “incompatibility” to embody the unstable, uncertain state while people travel and try to settle down.
