paper yarn made of pine needle
2019

This artwork represents the original form of the material used in this yarn drawing which is pine tree. Due to the cotton and natural resource crisis around the world, the cost of import materials becomes higher and more difficult in Finland. The local company is producing this kind of paper yarns for art and craft products which could help increase economic demand of local resources. This material is made with Finish pine needles and can help reduce the amount of imported cotton yarns from south Asia. The artwork is not only about how it was made, it is about bringing to light the global resources crisis. Our economic systems cannot survive on large imports which consume the natural resources of third world countries. The weaving pattern made with yarns, imitates drawing lines that represents the relationship between the social and natural environment.
