This work triggers people’s subconscious using colours, materials and textures. REM in physical term meaning “rapid eye movement” during the sleep. It is a unique phase of sleep in mammals, distinguishable by random/rapid movement of the eyes, accompanied with low muscle tone throughout the body, and the propensity of the sleeper to dream vividly. The participators here all had experience working at the textile mills before, and using a Fitbit watch to record the sleeping pattern activity while they sleep every night for a week. The form of a long piece of textile illustrating the river of time, memories and emotion, which connects the subconscious and reality, tradition and contemporary, hand craft and computer technology, reality and illusion. Each unique textile is a reflection of each person’s sleeping activity during a single week in time. The up and down line from the pattern is representing the up and down cycle of the economy in the textile industry. Here, REM represents the idea of reality, economy and memory.
