COTTON
This is a sculpture of the cotton plant made of various forms of the cotton, from cotton bolls, cotton yarn, threads, cotton ropes, to cotton fabric, reflecting the growth of the cotton plant, harvesting of cotton, spinning of fibers, production of textiles, industrial innovations, to commercial trade. Through these links relating to cotton, the artist explores the essence of all life forms and the value of labor, and presents a chapter of world history woven by power, politics, and economy. A sculpture of a cotton Miridae made of Taiwanese hundred-dollar banknotes resting on a cotton plant once again echoes the interdependence between economic industry and natural ecology.
