HEMP Project
Border Landscape – Seine River is based on the course of the Seine as it flows into the English Channel. It refers to regions historically connected to hemp and flax cultivation, including Normandy and Belgium. Once widely grown in the French countryside, hemp gradually disappeared from daily life as its coarse fibers and the relocation of manufacturing led to declining local production. In recent years, government initiatives have encouraged the revival of hemp and flax farming for their environmental benefits and their role in protecting soil and water systems. Through interwoven plant fibers, the work forms a simple landscape that highlights the relationship between land, waterways, and fiber cultivation, while reflecting on ecological cycles and agricultural memory.
