Voyage of the Shuttle – Flax resembles a fully loaded sailing ship, its sail embroidered with poppy, hemp, and flax motifs that trace imagined routes across time. A European weaving shuttle is transformed into the form of a nineteenth-century vessel carrying textiles, fibers, and other materials. The work recalls histories of transcontinental trade, labor, and cultural exchange. Once a practical weaving tool, the shuttle becomes a symbolic container of memory, commerce, and migration. By merging the functional form of the shuttle with the imagery of a ship, the work reflects on the movement of materials, people, and knowledge within global trade networks.
