Voyage of the Shuttle – Hemp reimagines a traditional Hmong weaving shuttle, historically used to pass the weft threads through the warp. Inspired by the form of Thai canal boats, the shuttle becomes a vessel of cultural memory and movement. Its body carries a waxed-cloth sail, house-boat forms, hemp fiber, a hand-spinning spindle, and other elements that function both as structure and cargo. Moving between traditional craft and contemporary practice, the work reflects on how materials, tools, and techniques travel across time, geography, and human hands—revealing the intertwined histories of craft, labor, and migration.
